iPhone 12 Could Have A Depth-sensing Camera On The Back

The latest rumors that started online is the suggestion that the next iPhone i.e., iPhone 12 (most probably) will be coming with rear-facing 3D camera. According to a reliable source from FastCompany, Apple will add TrueDepth –  the same sensors which are being used for FaceID into the primary camera setup of many Apple devices.

As from the sources, the tech will apparently be bought from Lumentum, the same company that currently makes the FaceID sensors. Although this is not the first time that any company is using depth-sensing camera on the back. This tech is already available on some flagship phones. However, it will be a thing for Apple to add a depth-sensing camera on the back.

There are two major benefits of using a rear-facing depth-sensing lens. The first one is, it will make portrait and zoom photography a little better as the cameras will be able to tell how far an object is from the lens. Secondly, it’s likely to boost Apple’s stated push for augmented reality, since you’ll have accurate depth information to project images.

However, there is no guarantee that Apple will implement this camera on iPhone 12 as the company itself lagging behind its launch schedule of many products due to the Coronavirus concern. Also, Fast Company itself says that this feature has been kicked around by Apple before, and has previously been cut. Since, we are still six months ahead to see the next iPhone device, Apple might include this tech in this device.

Still, we advise our readers to take this rumor as a grain of salt as this is not the first time that Mark Sullivan has come good with a rumor about the iPhone. Before the launch of iPhone X, the same guy wrote about a laser sensor that would be used to recognize the user’s face in place of fingerprint recognition. However, the final result doesn’t came with the expected features.
