iOS 13.5, iPadOS 13.5 Released With Some COVID-19 Special Features

Apple has released iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 with some new COVID-19 special features. The latest software updates simplify the unlock process specifically for devices with Face ID to help users wearing masks. This change has been brought considering the fact that due to the coronavirus impact, wearing a mask has become a new normal worldwide. In addition to that, iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 update also enhance Group FaceTime calls with an automatic prominence option. Let’s take a look at the new features that added to iPhones and iPad with this update.

What’s New in iOS 13.5, iPadOS 13.5

Well, the most notable change of this update for your Apple device is is the improvement related to the unlock process for devices using Face ID. The update speeds up the facial recognization process even if you are wearing a mask. This means you don’t have to put out your mask to unlock your iPhone using Face ID.

Before this change, the Apple device prompts you to try again unlocking your phone using Face ID if it failed to work properly at first. However, with the new update, your device will prompt you to slide up and use the passcode to unlock your device if it failed to unlock at first.

This is something that we saw in a testing phase on the iOS 13.5 beta late last month. It works not just with the default unlock screen but also when authenticating with the App Store, Apple Books, Apple Pay, iTunes, and other apps that support signing in with Face ID.

Apart from this, the new iOS and iPadOS 13.5 brings a new option to control automatic prominence on Group FaceTime calls. In this way, you can decide whether you want the video tile of a participant to become larger automatically when they speak. The option is enabled by default, And so, you can disable it by going to Settings >> FaceTime >> Automatic Prominence.

iOS 13.5 also brings the Exposure Notification API on the iPhone that has been built by Apple and Google to support contact tracing apps from public health authorities. There won’t be any changes unless you have installed an app that uses the API.

In addition to adding new features and options, Apple has also fixed an issue that was causing a black screen when trying to play streaming videos from some websites. Furthermore, the updates address an issue related to the share sheet that was limiting suggestions and actions.

As for the availability, iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 update is now available for all iPhone, iPod touch models, and iPad devices which were running on iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 respectively. You can check the availability of the update on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad device by going to Settings >> General >> Software Update
