Integration of Google Maps, Translate, Calendar, and Lens into the iOS Chrome App

According to 9to5Google, Google is implementing changes to the iOS version of Chrome that aim to enhance productivity while browsing. Google is utilizing AI technology to detect addresses on webpages. Users can now tap on an address within a webpage and choose the option “View with Google Maps in Chrome.” This will open a mini version of Google Maps within Chrome, allowing users to easily get directions or open the full Google Maps app.

In the iOS version of Chrome, when a date is selected on a webpage, users are presented with two options: adding the date to the Google Calendar app or adding it to Apple Calendar. If the user chooses to add it to Google Calendar, contextual information will autofill certain details, which can then be adjusted to match the specific appointment.

Another exciting feature coming to the iOS version of Chrome is the ability to translate passages from foreign language websites. When users encounter a passage in a foreign language, a toolbar will appear with a “Google Translate” option. Tapping on this option will translate the selected section into English or the user’s preferred language.

In the coming months, the search/URL bar in the iOS Chrome app will include the Google Lens camera icon, located on the right side near the top of the screen. Tapping on this icon will allow users to search using their camera, both with new pictures taken and existing images from their camera roll. Google Lens provides a unique way to access the search engine by using visual input. Currently, the Lens icon can be found in the search bar of the iOS Google Search app.

As for the availability of these features on the iOS version of Chrome, the exact timeline is unclear. Users may have to explore and experiment with the app to discover when each feature becomes accessible on their iPhones.
