Instagram May Finally Let Influencers Make Money Off Their IGTV Videos

Instagram after a long time may share its revenue with creators. As spotted by a code hunter Jane Manchun Wong, who reverse-engineers apps to unearth unreleased features, Instagram is found to be testing a monetization platform for its long-form vertical video tool – IGTV.

As mentioned by Jane, this new program is dubbed as the Instagram Partner Program which will allow eligible influencers to earn money by “running short ads” on their IGTV videos. Just like other video-based platforms such as YouTube, Instagram has also set some criteria which influencers need to fulfill to be eligible to monetize their content. However, we still don’t know what those criteria are.

The YouTube Partner Program, for instance, requires publishers to have more than 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 12 months as well as at least a thousand subscribers. On Facebook itself, business pages need to have a minimum of 10,000 followers and 30,000 1-minute views on videos in the last 60 days for making money off in-stream video ads.

There’s no word on the revenue split either. At the moment, Facebook lets producers earn a 55% cut from “Ad Breaks” on Facebook Watch. As of now, Instagram already runs advertisements inside users’ feeds and between stories. However, this will be a completely new idea of Instagram to let users monetize their content on IGTV.

Instagram first confirmed it would eventually bring a way for creators to monetize their IGTV content in April 2019. And now, Jane said that Instagram is testing the same to bring on the stable release in the future. Well, as soon as some news on IGTV monetization comes into existence, we will update you with the same.
