Instagram is testing a new messaging app called Threads

Facebook has been reportedly working on a new standalone companion messaging app for Instagram called “Threads”. The Verge has confirmed the name of the new app that is going to have most of the Sanpchat’s popular features.

This new Threads app is designed to be used with your “close friends list” on Instagram that allows you to share details like location, speed, and battery life. In addition to all these features, users will have all the existing features of instagram including text, photo, and video messages.

Facebook has been struggling for a while to build a standalone messaging app for Instagram. Before this, Instagram introduced an Instagram Direct app which is still in beta. But it wasn’t that much success and finally, the social giant has announced to abandon it.

Now, this Thread app is appearing to Facebook’s attempt to bring together the best features of Instagram and Snapchat into one package. Much like Snapchat, Threads will allow you to automatically send updates to your entire friend list. Facebook has been siting the location-sharing features to take this feature back into trend.

As for the availability of the Thread app is concerned, there is no definite date announced by Facebook. While for its survival, the Thread app will ofcourse survive longer than the Instagram Direct app. This new app is likely to feature more than just ordinary messaging. So, it will be exciting to see what Threads will bring for us.
