Instagram has launched a new feature today called “Guides” that lets content creators create content in a single location with the primary focus on creating wellness content in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
This feature update will allow publishers, nonprofits, and other organizations to create new article-like posts that combine photos and videos, along with original text, into a single “Guide.” Instagram has also made a particular “Guides” section in an account’s profile, just like IGTV. However, one can send these Tips on Stories also and will appear in a new “wellness” section of the app’s Explore tab.
With the launch of this feature, Instagram says it’s focusing on “wellness” content only in an effort to reach more users during the coronavirus pandemic. Instagram has also partnered with some organizations focused on local communities and mental health, as well as a handful of publishers, like BuzzFeed and Refinery29.
For now, Guides appear to be limited just to the wellness-focused creators and companies that Instagram has selected to launch the feature, but it’s easy to imagine Instagram rolling out the tool for a much larger array of topics in the future.
