During this hard time of the Coronavirus outbreak, Instagram wants to feel you safe and comfortable as you video-call your friends and families right from your home. Instagram has launched a new feature called Co-Watching to help people stay connected on video calls to maintain social distancing.

The new feature allows you to view Instagram posts together with your friends over a group video call. In addition to that, Instagram also added new stickers to help people share information related to COVID-19 information such as reminders to watch hands and maintain a distance from others.

Out of many new features, the Co-Watching feature is one of the best features which will let multiple users view Instagram posts together over a video chat. You can start a video chat by tapping the video chat icon in the Direct inbox. Alternatively, the new feature can be accessed through an existing Direct thread.

The new sticker feature will also be provided on Instagram, which will let you share COVID-19 information in your Instagram Stories. These stickers will include reminders to wash your hands and distance yourself from others.

“Over the past few weeks, we’ve added a notice at the top of the feed for countries affected by COVID-19. The notice includes reliable resources from expert health organisations. Besides, we’ve been highlighting resources from these organizations when people view related hashtags,” the company noted in a blog post.

Apart from these features, the social media giant has also started working with the World Health Organization (WHO) and local health ministries to provide coronavirus-related details. On opening Instagram, you will see a new button at the top, which on click will give access to authenticated information related to the novel coronavirus.

In addition to that, Instagram is also working with third-party fact-checkers to remove false information in feed and Stories. The platform is also claimed to have restricted misleading ads for products that refer to COVID-19 “in ways intended to create urgency, guarantee cures, or prevent people from contracting it.” A new “Stay Home” sticker has been developed by Instagram that will show off the practice of social distancing by the users.
