Indicating Location at Specific Times: Google Calendar’s New Feature

Google has expanded its existing feature for Calendar to provide users with a convenient way to inform their co-workers of their availability at different times of the day. Introduced in 2021, “working locations” allowed users to indicate their work location through their schedules. Now, with the updated feature, users can specify their working locations for specific time slots, ensuring a more accurate representation of their availability.

In an announcement, Google stated that working from different locations is common for individuals in hybrid work environments. This enhancement can simplify the process for co-workers to determine whether they can meet in person for collaboration or if a video conference needs to be scheduled instead. To use the feature, users can create an event, select “Working Location,” choose a time frame, and indicate their location for those hours. The upgraded Working Location feature is now accessible to all Google Workspace users, including Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Standard, Education Plus, the Teaching and Learning Upgrade, and Nonprofit users.

The tech giant has also implemented improvements to make Google Docs more user-friendly for creators. When Android users launch the Google Docs app and open a document, it will now automatically enter edit mode. There’s no longer a need to tap on the edit button – users can immediately begin typing or making changes to the document. Tapping on the open document will bring up the on-screen keyboard unless a physical keyboard is connected to the device.
