Taiwanese technology brand HTC may have plans for a foldable phone, if we go by a patent filing. Spotted by LetsGoDigital, the patent filing shows a smartphone with hinge in the middle. It seems like the fold would be horizontally in the middle. There haven’t been HTC phone in recent years but going by the patent filing, the company may be planning to make a big splash with a foldable device.
It is just a patent yet and we do not know for sure if HTC takes up the idea in right earnest and starts developing it to make its first foldable phone.
If we look at the smartphone market right now, a fierce competition is on in almost every price segment except the foldable phone segment where only some devices are there. Despite that fact, the market right now cannot be called short of foldable phones. With the Galaxy Z Fold2, Samsung has added another foldable phone to its kitty, apart from last year’s Galaxy Fold. Motorola also arrived a bit earlier with its foldable phone and now has two variants of the Moto Razr in the market. Huawei also has its foldable smartphones though it didn’t launch them in India. Microsoft also launched the dual screen Surface Duo phone recently. LG is also said to be working on a foldable device of its own.
