How To Recruit New Soldiers

Quick Links

To assert that Xenonauts 2 is anything but challenging would be ludicrous. It serves as the sequel to the spiritual successor of the original XCOM series of turn-based strategy games. In an era when the strategy genre was more niche and complex, developers had the freedom to employ intricate mechanics.

Soldiers in Xenonauts 2

Xenonauts 2 Soldier Select and Customization Screen

Xenonauts 2 presents a formidable turn-based strategy game with a Strategic Layer known as the overworld global map. This layer allows players to construct their clandestine organization, complete with multiple unique bases scattered across the game world. Players can recruit promising soldiers who will face off against hordes of aliens. However, not all soldiers are created equal, and some wield heavy weapons capable of decimating more than just aliens.

The current selection of soldier classes in Xenonauts 2 includes:

  • Assault
  • Grenadier
  • Heavy
  • Rifleman
  • Shield
  • Sniper

In addition to these classes, players can unlock various combat drones through research to aid them in battles.

How To Recruit New Soldiers

Xenonauts 2 Recruit New Soldiers

During tactical gameplay, commanders are bound to lose soldiers due to poor positioning or unfortunate circumstances. However, fear not, as recruiting new soldiers is possible in Xenonauts 2. There are a few limitations, though. Initially, players are restricted in the number of soldiers they can host at their base. However, they can expand this capacity by building one or more barracks later on.

When the need for more recruits arises to combat the alien menace, players should turn to the Strategy Layer. At the top of the screen, there is a ‘Soldiers’ menu that provides a detailed breakdown of available soldiers in the roster. At the bottom of this menu, there is an option to ‘Recruit Soldiers.’ Clicking on it will bring up a menu displaying the currently available list of recruits, along with their ranks and statistics.

Tip: It is advisable to avoid recruits with any red-numbers in their stats. They are not worth the time and pose a risk to the entire squad due to low skill checks in the tactical layer. Instead, focus on recruits with yellow and especially green numbers, as they are more abundant.

To hire desired recruits, commanders can select them or tick the checkbox on the left-hand side of the menu. Then, click on the recruit button and pay the fee, which is usually tens of thousands of dollars. Money is not a major concern initially, as players start with a few million dollars.
