How This New Microsoft Teams Update Can Help You Avoid Embarrassing Mistakes

As video conferencing continues to dominate as the primary method of communication for workers worldwide, ensuring accurate timing is crucial. Fortunately, a new update from Microsoft Teams aims to eliminate the confusion of time zones, ensuring that you never keep your overseas colleagues, clients, or leads waiting.

The update will now suggest start times that align with each participant’s location, eliminating the need for early mornings or late evenings spent waiting for a Microsoft Teams meeting.

In its entry on the Microsoft 365 roadmap, this update, known as “meeting participants time-zone,” explains how it benefits those scheduling calls with users in multiple locations.

In addition to suggesting start times, Microsoft Teams will provide “additional insights that correspond to the participants’ respective time-zones,” which may include local holidays or individual travel times.

Overall, Microsoft assures that this tool will “ensure a more suitable time for all meeting participants.”

The update is currently listed as “in development” and is scheduled for a rollout starting in July 2023. Once released, it will be available for Windows users across both web and desktop platforms, as well as for government and high-security users.

Analysis: About time

If you’ve ever worked in a multinational business, you know that scheduling calls across different time zones can often be unnecessarily challenging. Personally, I’ve found myself constantly Googling “what time is it in New York/San Francisco/Paris right now?” and “PST to BST.” This new Microsoft Teams update will be a game-changer and save us all from such struggles.

The platform already introduced the ability to highlight users’ current time-zones and provided live translated captions, making international calls and networking easier than ever before.
