After the beta testing program, HMD Global has now started pushing the Android Oreo update for Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones. HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas announced the news on Twitter with a tweet saying – “Sweeter and Smoother. The #Nokia5 and #Nokia6 are officially joining the #AndroidOreo family”.

HMD Global has started testing Oreo beta update for the Nokia 5 and 6 a few days back in December last year, and now that test is over, and the official update is starting to hit all devices, no need to sign up for any beta.

The OTA update is being rolled out in a phased manner globally, and India is among the first countries to receive the update. If you didn’t receive the popup yet, you could check it manually by going to go Settings > System > About Phone > System Update. The update weighs 1.8GB in size, so we advise you to connect your phone to a Wi-Fi hotspot for downloading the update.

The Oreo update will bring a bunch of new features including Picture in Picture (PiP) mode – It allows you to miniaturise a YouTube video feed or a video call on Hangouts or Duo into the corner of your screen so you can carry on with other tasks simultaneously. It also gives faster boot time and Restricts background activities. Google has finally introduced rounder face emoticons for Android Oreo and added 60+ new emojis. Other features include installation of apps via APK, notification dots, Wide-gamut colour for apps, snoozing individual notification, Adaptive icons, Keyboard navigation, WebView enhancements and much more.
