Hey AMD, Nvidia – Intel Arc GPUs can also be massively overclocked, as A770 gets pushed to 3.6GHz

When it comes to graphics card overclocking, it’s usually the high-end models that receive all the attention. However, one expert overclocker decided to push the limits of Intel’s A770 GPU, despite it not being able to compete with the top offerings from Nvidia or AMD.

SkatterBencher managed to overclock the Acer Predator BiFrost A770 to an impressive 3.59GHz using liquid nitrogen cooling. This was a significant increase from the GPU’s default boost speed of 2.4GHz. The goal was to achieve the highest clock speed ever seen on Intel’s Arc and set a record benchmark for Arc owners.

Earlier attempts to overclock the Alchemist GPU with liquid nitrogen encountered issues, but SkatterBencher’s efforts proved successful. Although the GPU was unstable at 3.6GHz, they managed to reach 3.4GHz with a light workload and 3.1GHz for running a demanding 3DMark benchmark.

These overclocking attempts resulted in new records for an Intel Alchemist GPU in most 3DMark tests. The Time Spy test, for example, achieved a score of 16,711, surpassing the previous record of 13,259 achieved at 2.8GHz. This impressive overclocking achievement demonstrates the potential of Intel’s Alchemist GPU.

Analysis: An Impressive First Crack – So, What About Battlemage?

Overclocking Intel’s Alchemist GPUs has been a challenging task in the past. However, SkatterBencher’s success with liquid nitrogen cooling is a noteworthy achievement. Achieving a maximum frequency of over 3.5GHz is impressive, especially considering that Alchemist is Intel’s first attempt at a modern GPU.

With the upcoming Battlemage GPUs, Intel is expected to make significant progress on all fronts. However, recent rumors suggest that Intel may not release higher-end (B700 series) Battlemage GPUs that were previously rumored. Instead, they may focus on budget-end (B300 series) models, potentially narrowing their ambitions in terms of the GPU range.

Regardless of the rumors, Intel’s success in providing good value proposition budget GPUs is crucial. This is an area where Nvidia often falls short, and it remains an important piece of the puzzle for Intel’s graphics card offerings.
