Google Tests Expanding Play Store Filters To Include Star Ratings, Editors’ Choice, And ‘new’ Apps

As of now, Play Store’s lookup capabilities are quite basic. Google Play is now testing filters in search that can refine results by only surfacing the top apps.

Google Play is now getting a more generic filter set where results can be refined by rating (either 4.0+ or 4.5+), the “Editor’s Choice” badge from Google, and “New.” All three filters can be applied at the same time to only show the top apps in the results below.

This will be quite useful for users to find exactly what they have been looking for. Meanwhile, “new” is helpful for surfacing up-and-coming developers. This new search filters are not widely available yet and are rolling out via a server-side update.
