Google released the Chrome 78 with the new Dark Mode and Customization Options

Google on Tuesday released the Chrome 78 for all the platforms including Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, iOS and ChromeOS. The new Chrome 78 comes with a lot of new features and customizations for the New Tab page. Out of many new features, the latest version of Chrome brings the new Dark mode.

Dark mode in Google Chrome 78 arrived in a completely different way. There is an option called the ‘Force Dark Mode’ that switches the dark theme to every site you visit on Chrome, no matter they support it or not. Apart from this, you can simply change the theme of Chrome by tapping the menu icon and then hitting Settings > Themes. Once there, you can choose between three options: System default, Light, and Dark.

While most of the new features are activated by default, there are some features and customization that are needed to be activated manually. To activate those features manually, you can visit the chrome://flags section. Let’s say if you want to activate the forced dark mode, you can refer to chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark

A new Password checkup tool comes bundled with the Chrome 78 which is not enabled by default. So, if you want to activate it, you have to follow this path chrome://flags/#password-leak-detection. Chrome 78 also provides tooltips when hovering over nearby tabs, but some may find these tab hover cards more annoying than useful, and if so, can be disabled via Chrome flags as well: chrome://flags/#tab-hover-cards.

In related news, if you use Chrome on a computer and are running the latest version, you can now send phone numbers from the desktop version of Chrome to your Android device. Just highlight a phone number on your desktop, right-click it, and select the device you’d like to send it to. You can then tap a notification on your Android phone and call that number.

Chrome 78 is rolling out now via the Google Play Store. However, it might take some time to get delivered to every device. So, if you didn’t get this update yet, you might need to wait for a few more days.
