Google Pixel Buds, Huawei P40 Pro+: Latest Reviews

Finding yourself umm’ing and err’ing between two smartphones models, Bluetooth speakers, or headphones? Then you’re in the right place!

Scroll down to find a comprehensive list of the latest product reviews written by the consumer tech team. We’re always bashing on rugged gadgets, barking orders at smart speakers, replacing perfectly good lightbulbs with Wi-Fi enabled equivalents, re-wiring our routers, and plugging and unplugging HDMI dongles to check which are best suited to weekend-long binges of The Haunting Of Hill House – all so you don’t have to!

Here at, we test everything from smart home gadgetry, TVs, smartphones, headphones, fitness trackers, laptops, and much, much more. Here’s a comprehensive list of some of the tech toys that have arrived in towers and left with a shiny new star rating. We test everything we review thoroughly, usually living with the device in our own homes for a few weeks before putting pen to paper.

Most recently… We’ve been out and about (while maintaining at least one-metre from fellow smartphone reviewers) with the Huawei P40 Pro+ and the Google Pixel Buds. The former is a supercharged version of the Huawei P40 Pro we tested earlier this year, with a luxurious ceramic case that takes Huawei four painstaking days to craft, 40W fast-charging that can refill the phone from flat to 100% in under half an hour, and a boosted camera with a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens. So, do all of these additions make it worth your money? Well, we’re not going to give that away – you’ll have to read the full Huawei P40 Pro+ review to find that out, but it’s safe to say that our main issue with the P40 Pro is not solved on the Pro+.

While out-and-about we’ve also been listening to some of our favourite tracks, albums and podcasts on the new Google Pixel Buds. These are the long-awaited follow-up to the original Pixel Buds, which launched alongside the Pixel 2 in October 2017. Three years on, Google has seriously upped its game – the new Buds are truly wireless and ship with a nifty pebble-like charging case that, for our money, looks smarter than the one you’ll get with the Apple AirPods. The sound from these small earbuds is pretty impressive – even if the microphones for phone calls and voice commands when you’re out and about aren’t up to much.

And finally, we’ve had the Marshall Emberton Bluetooth speaker into the (home) office to review. Like the Marshall Monitor II ANC headphones launched earlier this year, this portable speaker has a design lavished with nostalgic touches from the historic guitar amp brand. But there’s plenty of modern tricks packed into this Bluetooth speaker, including fast-charging, water resistance, and 20-hour battery life to fill your next barbeque, picnic, or shower with music.

You can read the full review below to find out whether these shiny new gadgets impressed.
