Google Messages Started Showing iMessage-Style Reactions in RCS Chat

RCS is one of the advanced messaging apps from Google which the tech giant regularly updates with new features. RCS Messaging already has some advanced features such as typing indicators and read receipts. Now, it looks like some users of Google’s Messages app are getting another feature that you don’t usually get with regular text messaging apps.

Some RCS Chat users are now getting message reactions inside the Messages app. The tech giant has quietly started shipping this feature to the users. This feature has started appearing for some folks on Reddit this week, but it looks to be in limited testing right now because only a handful of Messages users have got their hands on this feature.

On looking at the screenshots shared on Reddit, the new reaction feature on RCS looks like Apple’s iMessage reactions. You can press and hold on the message you want to react to and you’ll get 7 different reactions to choose from.

In case, if you have this latest feature and the people, on the other hand, don’t have this feature, he will just get another message that includes the emoji of the reaction with the quoted message that they reacted to.

Google hasn’t officially announced these new reactions feature for its Messages app, so it’s unclear when or if it’ll begin rolling out more widely. Since it has started appearing for some users, we expect to see this feature soon for all RCS users.
