RCS is one of Google’s effort to improve messaging on Android, however, there are some people who don’t want this change on their phone. So, for such people, Google has recently opened up a form that makes it easy to disable RCS completely on Google Messages for your number by deregistering it.
Google’s new page offers instruction on how to turn off the “Chat features”, which effectively turns off RCS chat. The page suggests that you can turn to chat features off if you are missing messages before switching to a new Android phone or switching completely to iMessage on an iPhone.
There are some exceptions to deregistering a number, though. Like if you’re not actually registered with Google Messages RCS, the verification message will still come through, but you’ll get an error message.
In addition to that, if you have lost your device or don’t have access to it, or if you forgot to turn off chat features, you can now fill out a form online and manually turn off chat features.
You just need to enter your phone number associated with the chat features, you will get an OTP (one-time-password) on your number. It must be noted that you must have access to that number to receive OTP via SMS.
