Google+ is now going to shut down for forever starting from today itself. Before this, Google has already announced that its social networking platform will be shutting down today, and now that day has arrived. Now after a long time span of around 8 years from its launch, Google is finally pulling back its Google+ service.
During this course, Google tries is best possible to beat its competitors like Facebook and Whatsapp, however, it never gains that much of popularity in comparison to the others. Google itself admitted that Google+ was a failure with the consumer version having “low usage and engagement” and 90% of Google+ user sessions being less than five seconds long.
And now finally, Google has stated that they will be deleting the contents of Google+ starting today and all the data related to consumer accounts will be deleted for forever. There are many reasons which lead to its failure, however, the most favored reason is related to a coding bug which leads to misuse of user’s privacy.
This coding bug mainly observed between the year 2015 and 2018 during which this bug leads to the discloser of some personal information of the users like gender, age, occupation to the third-party developers even if this information were hidden from the user end. However, this bug got discovered in March 2018 and was resolved by Google. But due to this, Google+ loses its trust among the users and got eventually destroyed.
Now finally, Google+ is going away from all of us. In a message sent to users Google said: “This is a reminder that on April 2, 2019, we’re shutting down consumer Google+ and will begin deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts. Photos and videos from Google+ in your Album Archive and your Google+ pages will also be deleted.”
