After revamping the Android apps UI, Google has started rolling out a Material Theme for the Play Store on Android TV. As compared to the current UI, the redesigned version of the Android TV Play Store is quite elegant and makes use of full-bleed cover art and large text.
Google has announced the revamping of the Android TV Play Store at Google I/O this year where the Android TV Product Lead Anwar Haneef introduced a new look for the Play Store that focuses on usability and discovery. Now the new version of PlayStore 16.9.42 for Android TV is rolling out.
From the beginning, there is a Google Play icon and wordmark in the top-left corner. This is followed by Apps, Games, and My apps being at the right instead of those core sections requiring users to visit a navigation drawer. Search and settings have also been moved to the top-right.
The new-look features auto-playing video previews for apps and a generally more content-rich layout that’s more in line with modern Android TV’s look on the whole. Cards for apps are better spaced out and do not pack as much information in this Play Store redesign for Android TV. The My Apps tab also makes use of the large text at the top of the screen.
Overall, this Play Store redesign for Android TV is essentially the one previewed by Google at I/O 2019 with some minor changes. Although some of the users across the world are claiming that this TV revamp was enabled on version 16.9.42 of the Play Store and shared some of their snaps, we haven’t seen any changes from our side. This is because Google is quite slow to push the update to Android TV. So, we can expect to have this update soon in a few hours or days.
