Last year in August, Google announced a “Cameos” app that lets celebrities and other personalities answer popular questions asked through Search. This app was first launched at iOS is now available on the Android platform.
Google Cameos is the best platform for celebrities to respond to their fans. It takes advantage of the existing “Posts on Google” format that lets brands post direct updates and messages to their Knowledge Panel card or Google Discover. Whatever response they give to those questions are directly posted on Google Search to make them appear in searches and Feeds.
Google will compile questions in categories like “Most asked by users,” “For the fans,” and “Trending topics.” Celebrities can directly answer those questions by recording a video on that which will appear in the search results when people search for the related query.
The interface for the Android app is quite slick with a Material Theme bottom bar and card-heavy UI. There are engaging elements like a large “Recording” button and “Slide to post.” When the camera isn’t active, the app’s background is a blurred view from your device’s front-facing camera.
The Cameos app is really only made for people in the public eye or those that represent them. Google is accepting applications through the app, asking basically just for a name, email address, and a phone number. However, Google did also included a demo mode for everyone to get a taste of how the app works, but it’s not much more than a simple sandbox experience.
Google Cameos is now available on Google Play Store to download on Android phone running on Android version 6.0+.
