Google brings Lens into its Translate app on Android and iOS

Google Lens and Google Translate are two extremely useful tools that the company offers to its users. Google is replacing the camera mode on the Translate app with Google Lens, according to a report by 9to5Google.
The report says that on Android phones, this will be a “system-level capability” whereas the iOS app has built-in lens. The change has already been rolled out to users. We did check it on the iOS app for Google Translate and can confirm that Google Lens does indeed show up in the camera mode of the Translate app. The idea seems to make the translation better as prior to the change, users had no option but to use the simple translate feature. Google Lens brings other features.
How it works
On the iPhone, one can open the Google Translate app and then tap on the Camera icon. Once there, users will instantly see the Google Lens. Users have the option to change languages and can do this on any image already stored or click a new photo to translate the text.
Google Lens’ ever-growing reach
Google Lens was first introduced by the company in 2017 and since then has become an integral feature across a variety of Google’s apps and services.
In the last 12 months or so, Google has expanded Lens integration to a variety of its apps and services. Earlier this year, Google got Lens into the Google Images website. On the desktop, users can spot the Google Lens icon sandwiched between voice and regular search options.
In November 2022, Google Lens was integrated into the homepage. The Lens button now appears right in the Search bar on the Google homepage. The integration is very similar to how it is on the Google Chrome browser and the Pixel launched in Android smartphones.
