Give Us a Sonya & G’iah Spin-Off, Damn It!

The finale of Secret Invasion left us with a thrilling CGI battle between Gravik and G’iah, a departure from the series’ more grounded political thriller tone. G’iah, in the form of Nick Fury, manages to defeat Gravik and avenge her parents’ murder. Sonya proposes a partnership with G’iah to lead the Skrulls in a new mission, allowing for the possibility of their appearance in upcoming Marvel projects like The Marvels or Thunderbolts. However, there are still many unanswered questions after the conclusion of Secret Invasion. Gravik’s actions may be over, but they have set the stage for a larger war to come.

It has become a trend for Marvel Disney+ shows to end with a grand CGI battle between powerful characters, even if it doesn’t necessarily align with the series’ established tone. Secret Invasion, while maintaining its political thriller vibe, surprised audiences with Skrulls using Captain Marvel’s powers and Mantis’ abilities. However, Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke consistently deliver outstanding performances as new additions to the MCU.

In the finale, G’iah confronts Gravik at New Skrullos and outwits him by shapeshifting into Fury. This allows G’iah to manipulate Gravik into thinking he has the upper hand, leading to his defeat. G’iah gains the abilities of the Avengers and uses them to seek revenge against Gravik for her parents’ murder. While this brings closure for G’iah, it doesn’t resolve the growing fear and tension surrounding the Skrulls.

Meanwhile, the real Fury teams up with Sonya to prevent Skrull Rhodey from convincing President Ritson to bomb New Skrullos. The President’s fear and trauma push him to declare war on all Skrulls and propose legislation labeling them as enemy combatants. This decision creates division among humans, with some supporting the Skrulls’ rights and others advocating for their extermination. The stage is set for a political climate resembling real-world tensions.

Though Gravik is seemingly dead, the Skrulls are now forced into a war with humans and need a leader. Sonya offers G’iah a partnership to fight against President Ritson’s regime. While hesitant at first, G’iah sees the potential to right past mistakes and agrees to the alliance. Their partnership signifies a new era where both species can work towards a better future.

As G’iah and Sonya leave together, it becomes apparent that their story will continue in the MCU. However, it’s unclear when and where they will reappear. The Marvels, a sequel to Secret Invasion, may feature their cameos or post-credit scenes. Another possibility is their involvement in Armor Wars, which follows Rhodey dealing with the aftermath of Secret Invasion.

In conclusion, the thrilling finale of Secret Invasion leaves several unanswered questions. The battle with Gravik may be over, but a larger war looms on the horizon. G’iah and Sonya’s partnership offers hope for both Skrulls and humans to unite against prejudice and fight for a better future. The future appearances of these characters in the MCU are eagerly awaited, with potential cameos or roles in upcoming projects like The Marvels or Thunderbolts.
