There’s a new Galaxy S20 in town. Samsung this week announced the release of its new Fan Edition variant of the popular Galaxy S20 line-up. This new device comes jam-packed with features, but gets a price that’s much more affordable than the standard S20. In fact, the entry-level 4G variant can be popped in your pocket for under £600, which is very good value considering the impressive spec sheet.
For your money, (it costs £599 in the UK), you’ll be treated to a pin-sharp 6.5-inch AMOLED screen that even features a silky smooth 120Hz refresh rate. There’s also a triple rear camera, monster 4,500mAh battery and Samsung’s clever wireless PowerShare technology which allows you to boost the battery of other devices or accessories simply by placing them on top of the phone.
All of these features are also found in the standard S20 (which starts from £749 in the Samsung Store), but amazingly there’s one upgrade that could make the cheaper S20 FE better than its more expensive siblings.
In the UK, all models of the current Galaxy S20 range use Samsung’s Exynos 990 processor. If you buy the S20 FE 4G, you’ll get those same brains.

However, pop the Galaxy S20 FE 5G into your online shopping basket and you’ll find it’s powered by Qualcomm’s premium Snapdragon 865 chip. What difference does switching from the Samsung-developed Exynos to the Qualcomm processor really have on your handset? Well, quite a bit.
There’s been a slew of benchmark tests which show the Snapdragon 865 is more powerful than the Exynos 990. In fact, recent stats from the team at Antutu suggest that, in terms of performance, Samsung’s chip is around 6 percent behind that of Qualcomm’s chip.
This basically means that UK owners of the £699 S20 FE 5G are getting a slightly faster device than those who have purchased the £1,200 Galaxy S20 Ultra. Other features worth mentioning on the S20 Fan Edition include an embedded fingerprint scanner, water-resistant design and wireless charging.
The phone also arrives in six fruity colours including Cloud Navy, Cloud White, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Orange, Cloud Red.
Speaking about the launch, Conor Pierce, Corporate Vice President, Samsung UK and Ireland, said: “We are constantly speaking to our customers and know there is demand for a smartphone that takes stunning photos and can perform all day, at a competitive price point. Galaxy S20 FE is an extension of the Galaxy S20 family, designed to bring flagship features to a wider audience. Equipped with 5G, we have future-proofed the device so our customers can enjoy the incredible innovation we know this technology will bring to our everyday lives.”
The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will be available starting October 2, 2020 in the UK. Both the 4G and 5G-enabled models will be available from a range of high street and online stores, as well as from Samsung itself.
