Activision Blizzard has officially confirmed that the multiplayer mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be available for free this week. This exciting free trial grants players access to Season 3 content, including the Pelayo’s Lighthouse arena, the intense 2v2 Gunfight mode, a variety of classic multiplayer modes, and much more. The trial will commence on April 19 at 9:30pm IST/ 5pm BST and will run until April 26, allowing gamers on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X to join in on the action. If you choose to upgrade to the full MW2 game and the popular battle-royale tie-in Warzone 2.0, all your multiplayer progress will seamlessly carry over.
Season 3, which began on April 12, introduced new operators, a captivating battle pass, and an exciting new Gulag arena for the battle royale mode. The Gulag arena, named Blacksite, is also accessible within the 2v2 Gunfight mode, which made its debut in 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. In Gunfight mode, players engage in team-based matches with randomized weapon loadouts, striving to be the first squad to secure victory in six rounds. During the free multiplayer week, players will also have the chance to explore maps such as Alley, Shipment, and Exhibit in the Gunfight rotation.
Furthermore, the latest season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 introduces two brand new multiplayer maps: Black Gold and Pelayo’s Lighthouse. However, only Pelayo’s Lighthouse will be available during the free access period. This exhilarating map immerses players in a small stormy island centered around a guiding lighthouse. The island is dotted with maintenance buildings, a boat dock, and a helipad, featuring rocky elevations that provide strategic advantages. The dynamic gameplay of the map ranges from intense close-quarter combat within the “Main Building” to opportunities for stealthy approaches utilizing the raging waves for cover.

With a total of 10 MW2 maps available across 12 game modes, it offers an extensive multiplayer experience. The Santa Seña map, however, is exclusively reserved for Invasion and Ground War modes. Activision has also mentioned that there will be an “additional download” required for accessing the free multiplayer, with varying sizes depending on the platform.
In February, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II introduced its Ranked Play segment, aligning with the rules of the Call of Duty League (CDL). The transition to Season 3 faced a slight delay, but it has now been updated with new restrictions to address the unrestricted status of the SPW 40MM Drill attachment and specific FJX Ammunition Types in custom loadouts. Ranked Play requires players to reach a minimum level of 16, and all weapons and attachments are automatically unlocked to ensure a level playing field for participants.
