We have an exclusive look at Jenna Ortega in costume as she films on the set of Beetlejuice 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Tim Burton’s iconic 1988 film. It appears to be a beautiful day for a white wedding, as Billy Idol once sang. Ortega was photographed on set alongside her co-star Winona Ryder, who is reprising her role as Lydia Deetz from the original film. People Magazine has shared the images of the two actresses hard at work.
The filming took place in Hertfordshire, England, and it seems that they were shooting an elaborate wedding scene reminiscent of a famous scene from the original film. However, Ortega is wearing a more traditional white wedding gown, in contrast to the red multi-tier ruffled dress worn by Ryder in 1988. Ortega’s character was officially announced as “Lydia’s daughter” by Warner Bros. in May.
Michael Keaton, who is currently enjoying a career resurgence after his return as Batman in DC’s The Flash, will be reprising his iconic role as Beetlejuice. Keaton expressed his excitement about returning to the character at a recent VIP event for The Flash, stating, “Beetlejuice is the most fun you can have working. It’s so fun, it’s so great. And you know what it is? We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie.”
“Tim and I were talking about it years and years ago, never telling anybody,” Keaton revealed. “We’ve both said we’re doing it many times. We both agreed, if it happens, it has to be done as close to the way we made it the first time. Making stuff up, making stuff happen, improvising and riffing, but literally handmade stuff like people creating things with their hands and building something.”
Beetlejuice 2 Expands Its Cast
In addition to Keaton and Ryder, the original film featured Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and Glenn Shadix. They portrayed a couple who seek help from a prank-playing spirit to rid their family home of an obnoxious new family after their own deaths. O’Hara will also be returning for the sequel as Delia, Lydia’s over-the-top mother.
Joining the cast of the sequel are Ortega, Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe, and Monica Bellucci. Bellucci will play Betelgeuse’s wife in the film, while Dafoe will portray a law enforcement officer in the afterlife. Theroux’s role has yet to be revealed.
