Denis Villenueve’s Dune has been hailed as an instant classic in the sci-fi genre, earning over $400 million at the box office despite releasing during a pandemic. It went on to win an impressive six Academy Awards out of ten nominations. Excitement for the upcoming Part 2 is steadily increasing.
However, the journey hasn’t been as smooth for the small screen spin-off series, The Sisterhood. The project was announced in June 2019, but has encountered numerous setbacks along the way, with key creatives leaving the production.
Originally, Jon Spaihts was set to write the pilot and Dana Calvo was named as showrunner, but both ultimately left the project. Diane Ademu-John took over as showrunner briefly before also departing, though she remains involved as an executive producer.
Director Johan Renck and cast members Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma were also attached, but they too left the series. However, replacements have finally been announced.
According to Variety, Anna Foerster will now direct Dune: The Sisterhood, while Olivia Williams and Jodhi May are rumored to be joining the ensemble. After three years of setbacks, it remains unclear when the series will finally make its way to streaming.
