Back in December 2019, Facebook launched a new tool to help users transfer their photos and videos from the platform over to Google Photos. Initially, the social media giant has made this tool available in some selected parts of Africa, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. Later in April 2020, this tool was made available in the US and Canada. But now, Facebook is making this tool available globally for everyone.

This new photo transfer tool allows you to create copies of all of the photos or videos on your Facebook account and transfer them to a linked Google Photos account. The tool is quite easy to use and it seamlessly transfers all of your photos and videos on Facebook to Google Photos.

If you have got this tool for the first time, here’s a quick guide to help you use this tool.

  1. While logged into your Facebook account, click on the down arrow at the end of the upper menu bar and select Setting.”
  2. Select the tab that reads Your Facebook Information.
  3. Click on Transfer a copy of your Photos or Videos.

Currently, Facebook only allows you to transfer your photos to Google Photos. However, the company is also planning to add more companies to its Data Transfer Program.

It’s worth noting that the transfer process isn’t quick and will take quite a bit of time if you have a whole lot of photos and videos shared on Facebook. Once all the photos are transferred to your Google Photos account, you will be able to check them under “Copy of [Facebook album name] folder.
