Facebook announced on Friday that its redesigned desktop site is now globally available for everyone. Before this, the new version of Facebook on Desktop was only available for users who have opted for it starting in March and only in some selected countries. But now, the company has rolled out its new design for everyone across the world.
In a blog post published today, Facebook says the new site will “now be the web experience for Facebook globally,” adding that “it’s faster, easier to use and gives your eyes a break with dark mode.”
Although the Dark mode is the most notable feature of this update, there are few more changes done in the latest design to improve user experience on Facebook. The home layout features a new skinnier News Feed, ample empty space on the left and right rails, and larger icons and a menu bar that lets you easily jump to various parts of the app.
In case, if you don’t know how to toggle the new version of the Facebook desktop, follow these given steps.
- Click on the down arrow at the end of the upper menu bar to pull up old Facebook’s settings menu.
- Click “Switch to new Facebook.”
- Click the same down arrow and toggle dark mode from off to on.
The goal of this new desktop design is to refocus the core web experience around the areas most people still enjoy using: events, groups, and messaging. People are retreating more and more into private groups and messaging, and Facebook’s only core utility right now is that it’s still the best way to organize a large event with friends or reach out to someone you know whose contact info you don’t have.
Although the company said it has started rolling out the new design globally, you might see the old page currently. If you don’t have access to the new interface the next time you visit Facebook, you may have to wait a couple of days.
