Facebook rolls out 3D photos that Jump Out of Your Newsfeed

Facebook is constantly developing ways to keep the News Feed interesting and exciting for the users. They started with texts and photos, and eventually reached out into videos and live broadcasts. And now, a new promising feature is available, the 360 photos and 3D photos.

Previously in May, during its F8 conference, Facebook has announced that it was working on a new feature that would take a normal 2D picture into a three-dimensional appearance when posted in the News Feed. Facebook just started to roll out 3D photos to everyone, allowing users to “bring scenes to life with depth and movement,” the ability to upload one will be available for everyone in the coming weeks.

You won’t be able to spin a photo on every angle though. But instead, the photos will have a depth that will let you see things from different angles and tilts within the photo. Facebook described this feature as being kind of looking at your photography subject or photos as if they were standing still behind a window.

To use this 3D feature, all you have to do is to take a photo in portrait mode and just start creating a new post on Facebook just like the way you used to. Tap the menu icon in the top right of the post screen and select the “3D Photo” option, it will then bring you to the portrait photo folder in your phone. Once you are done selecting the photo that you want, just post it as you usually do, add a caption and start sharing it to your feed.

But since Facebook is using an AI for this feature, the company recommends you keep your subject three to four feet away and have things in the foreground and background in a clear manner. It is because distinct colours will make the layers separate better, and transparent or shiny objects like glass or plastic can throw off the AI. So better follow these recommendations if you want to get the best out of it.
