After images of the feature has surfaced out about a couple of weeks ago, the Unsend feature of Facebook Messenger is now live. As what we have expected, the Unsend feature has a time limit of 10 minutes for some purposes. Sadly, the much awaited Unsend feature currently available for selected countries only.
This update brings user the ability to delete or edit a message within 10 minutes after the original message was sent. Aside from that, Facebook will also keep a copy of any unsent message for a limited amount of time to ensure that the message did not violate their policies.
Stan Chudnovsky, Facebook’s head of Messenger explained this new provision saying “The pros are that user want to be in control . . . and if you make a mistake you can correct it. There are a lot of legitimate use cases out there that we wanted to enable. We need to make sure we don’t open up any new venues for bullying. We need to make sure people aren’t sending you bad messages and then removing them because if you report them and the messages aren’t there we can’t do anything.”
To use the unsend feature, long-press on a message in the Messenger app, options to copy the message, remove it, forward it, and translate it will pop up, and choose the “Remove” option. After choosing the remove option, there will be a prompt asking you if you’d like to remove the message for everyone or just yourself, and when you proceed, the message will be deleted.
But of course, it will not just magically vanish such as the person included in your conversation will remain unconscious about the action that you have done. Facebook Messenger will pop up a notice explaining the details on what will happen when you remove a message. ”You’ll permanently remove this message for all chat members. They can see you removed a message and still report.” as it reads.
The new feature is now available on Messenger’s Android and iOS apps in Bolivia, Colombia, Lithuania and Poland. But don’t worry as Facebook promises that it will be available in other countries as soon as it’s possible. So stay tuned with TechnoCodex and we will bring you all of its updates.
