Facebook Messenger ditches Discover Tab to Simplify Chat

Since last year, Facebook has been modifying most of its platform to improve user experience on them. Recently, Facebook redesigned its official web application and now, the company is getting ready to make some notable changes to its Messenger app. The social network has confirmed to TechCrunch that it’s rolling out a Messenger redesign that ditches out the Discover tab, leaving just Chats and People.

In addition to that, the People split into both active chatters and Stories. As you already know, Instant Games and Transportation are already gone from the chat composer’s utility tray. Apart from this, bots, games and other features aren’t completely gone, but you will have to search for them.

Although Facebook didn’t mention an exact reason for this change, however, it looks like the company made this change to make Facebook Messenger faster and lighter. The company has been working on this plan from the past few months and looks like this decision is taken in the same plan.

From other perspectives, the Discover tab on the Messenger was not profitable at all for Facebook. While Facebook has recently started displaying ads in Stories, so to emphasize more on the Stories section, the company has ditched the Discover tab. It might rake in more cash simply by encouraging people to check their Stories more often.

As of now, this feature is still in the rollout phase and is expected to reach out to you by the next week.
