Facebook has announced today its standalone Messenger app for Mac and Windows. From now, you can access Messenger and all of its features directly from your PC either be it Windows or Mac.
The new Messenger app on the desktop will sync across mobile to offer a seamless experience. So, whenever new activity or message comes, you will be notified on both mobile and your messenger app on the desktop. This app comes with the recently added Dark Mode and GIFs feature.
This move comes after Facebook found an incredible increase in the usage of Messenger via a browser on the desktop. Last month, Facebook mentioned that t has seen a more than 100 percent increase in people using their desktop browser for audio and video calls via Messenger. And so, bringing a standalone app for PC will simplify the user experience who were using the Messenger on their desktop.
With the launch of this new app, Facebook wrote in a blog post:
Today we’re launching a Messenger app for macOS and Windows so you can video chat on your computer and stay connected with friends and family all over the world.
Now more than ever, people are using technology to stay in touch with the people they care about, even when physically apart. Over the past month, we saw more than a 100% increase in people using their desktop browser for audio and video calling on Messenger. Now with apps for macOS and Windows, the best of Messenger is coming to desktop, including unlimited and free group video calls.
The new Messenger app is available from both the Microsoft Store and the Mac App store now. You can download it now depending upon the platform you are using. However, to download this app, you need a mac system OS X 10.10.0 or later or Windows 10 10240.0 or higher.
