Explaining Release Date, Cast, and Plot of ‘Beetlejuice 2’

After many false alarms, a sequel to the movie Beetlejuice is finally in development. In April 2023, Warner Bros. officially announced the project during CinemaCon, but not much information was released. However, as we get closer to the start of production, more details have been revealed.

According to Variety, Warner Bros. has scheduled Beetlejuice 2 for release on Sept. 6, 2024. The film will likely head to Max a few months after that. The movie is currently titled Beetlejuice 2, although this could change in the future. Filming is expected to start as early as May 10, in London.

Michael Keaton will return as the iconic character Beetlejuice and Winona Ryder will reprise her role as Lydia Deetz, according to Variety. Jenna Ortega from the series Wednesday has joined the cast as Lydia’s daughter. Justin Theroux from Mulholland Drive is also attached to the film, as is Monica Bellucci from Irréversible in the role of Beetlejuice’s wife, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Catherine O’Hara will also reprise her role from the original movie as Delia Deetz, Lydia’s step-mother. Tim Burton will direct the film.

The details of the Beetlejuice sequel are scarce, but it is expected to be a real-time continuation of the first film. Lydia will return 35 years later with her daughter as a new character in the mix. The original plan for the sequel in the 1990s was to set it in Hawaii, where Beetlejuice would fight the ghost of a Kahuna. It is unknown whether that will still be the case for Beetlejuice 2.
