Experience PlayStation’s Legendary ‘Giant Enemy Crab’ E3 Unveiling in Stunning HD

In a delightful throwback, the iconic 2006 E3 press conference of PlayStation is now available in stunning HD for the first time.

For the younger generation, it may be hard to fathom the significance of E3 in the past and how unpolished and comical it could be. However, those who remember can recall PlayStation’s 2006 E3 press conference, where they unveiled the astonishingly high launch price of their console. Thanks to the video game documentary makers Noclip, we can now witness the entire conference in glorious 1080p. To jog your memory, the 20GB version of the PS3 retailed for a staggering $500 back in 2006 (just imagine needing that little storage). Adjusted for inflation, that equates to a little over $750, surpassing the current price of the PS5 by $250.

Remember that one?

The reception of this price point was unequivocally negative, especially when compared to the Xbox 360’s cheapest version which launched at $300, a far more reasonable entry point for those seeking a next-gen console at the time. Though the pricing was undoubtedly the lowest point of Sony’s conference, it was not the only factor that made it laughable considering today’s presentation standards.

The conference also featured unforgettable moments like the infamous “Riiiiiidge Racer!” announcement, delivered in such an unconvincing manner that one might question if that’s what ultimately doomed the series. And who could forget the excruciatingly long segment dedicated to the “giant enemy crab,” which took ages to reveal the creature itself, but at least we learned its weak point for massive damage.

While the entirety of the conference may seem somewhat ridiculous and overly lengthy, it is a remarkable piece of history that Noclip is meticulously preserving. I highly recommend exploring their full channel, as they gradually unveil more high-quality videos of trailers, conferences, and behind-the-scenes presentations that many of you may have never witnessed or, at the very least, not in such exceptional quality.
