Elon Musk’s work routine of 20 hours a day is BS, feels Twitter CEO

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey feels that the idea of working 20 hours a day and sleeping for just fours without any holiday should be the mantra for anyone to be successful is outdated. The ‘20-hour daily work routine to be successful’ is popularised by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is known to work up to 120 hours a week. Dorsey finds this mantra to be ineffective.
“…success means I work 20 hours a day and I sleep four– because that’s what I read that Elon Musk does… this is bullsh**t,” said Dorsey in a recent episode of The Boardroom: Out of Office Podcast, as per a report by CNBC.
As per Dorsey, working for 20 hours a day leads to burnouts. “I would rather optimise for making every hour meaningful — or every minute meaningful — than I would maximizing the number of hours or minutes I’m working on a thing,” he said in the podcast.
Dorsey practices vipassana meditation in the working to help him go throughout the day. Then after coffee he walks for a little over an hour to his workplace. While walking to his office, he listens to podcasts to learn something new. “The most important thing about that morning is, I meditated, which means I calmed my head, I did some physical exercise, I learned in just a short, effectively three-hour window before my meeting started,” Dorsey said.
Dorsey’s strategy to get the most of the day is keep all distractions away to get more work done in less time. “I just get so much more done and time really slows down, so the hour feels like three hours,” he said.
Not to forget, he is also the co-founder and CEO of Square. Dorsey works for Twitter in the morning and he spends the later part of the day managing Square. After work, he goes back home and cooks his own dinner.
