During the ID@Xbox Digital Showcase held yesterday, Microsoft unveiled a collection of exciting indie games coming soon to the cloud, console, and PC platforms.
A total of 20 games were featured, and we’ve handpicked a few Xbox indies that caught our attention.
One of these standout titles is MythForce from Beamdog, which we previously highlighted. This game exudes a nostalgic Saturday morning cartoon vibe from the 1980s and offers a captivating roguelike adventure experience with four-player online co-op. Set in the ever-changing Cursed Lands of Eldryth, players will assemble a team, gather weapons, and embark on a quest to vanquish formidable foes.
Assuming the role of a cartoon hero, players will level up as they navigate through dungeons, discovering magical artifacts and earning upgrades. Along the journey, legendary weapons and powerful magic will be acquired to combat hordes of enemies. The game boasts high replayability, as each attempt to conquer the dungeon presents different treasures, traps, and challenges.
MythForce will launch on September 12th for Xbox Series X/S, as well as PC, PlayStation, and Switch.
A sequel to Videocult’s Rain World, titled Rain World: Downpour, is now available. This intriguing survival platformer thrusts players into the role of a nomadic slugcat surviving in a broken ecosystem. Armed with a trusty spear, players must navigate the industrial wastes and hunt for food while evading larger creatures that view them as prey.
The slugcat and its adversaries have evolved since the first game. Five new slugcats traverse the landscape of this sprawling, ancient civilization, driven by curiosity, revenge, hunger, and a range of emotions as they search for truth.
Rain World: Downpour is currently accessible on Xbox, PC, PlayStation, and Switch.
Another fascinating title to look forward to is Scarlet Deer Inn, described as an embroidered narrative platformer.
In this game, players will encounter an intriguing cast of characters, explore a dark dungeon filled with monsters, and engage in branching dialogues that unveil optional backstories and bonus locations. The game presents a unique blend of adventure and platforming, showcasing embroidered character frames and hand-painted backgrounds inspired by Studio Ghibli movies.
With a medieval European setting enriched with Slavic folklore, Scarlet Deer Inn follows the tale of Elise, a mother of two. While she may not appear extraordinary, circumstances will lead her to explore places brimming with fascinating and unusual encounters, as well as dark and terrifying elements.
A release date for Scarlet Deer Inn has yet to be announced, and it will also be available on Steam and Switch.
Sea of Stars is another highly anticipated game worth mentioning. We had the pleasure of playing the demo during Steam Next Fest and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although the game won’t launch until August 29th, you can still try out the PC demo, which is also now available for Xbox.
This turn-based RPG draws heavy inspiration from classic games in the genre, evoking nostalgia while delivering a unique experience. It reminds us of countless RPGs we’ve played in the past, making it difficult to pinpoint a specific comparison. Sea of Stars recounts the tale of two Children of the Solstice who combine the powers of the sun and moon to wield Eclipse Magic, the only force capable of defending against the monsters created by the evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer.
The demo showcases areas that will be featured in the final game, and fortunately, it avoids revealing any major spoilers from the main story. Its purpose is to provide a glimpse of the game’s context and highlight gameplay systems and mechanics related to dungeon crawling and combat.
A prequel story set in The Messenger’s universe, Sea of Stars was developed by indie studio Sabotage and received funding through a successful Kickstarter campaign launched in 2020. The campaign reached its goal within seven hours of going live on the crowdfunding platform. The game will also be available on PlayStation and Switch.
We unveiled various other titles during the ID@Xbox Showcase, and you can check out the complete list on Xbox Wire.
