Disney’s Movies Anywhere Can Now be Linked to Microsoft’s Xbox Movie App

Joining Google Play, iTunes, and Amazon, Microsoft has also partnered with video platform Disney’s Movies Anywhere through Movies and TV store. After severing ties a year ago the partnership has been retained.

The Verge reported that Microsoft Movies & TV, the Windows- and Xbox-based digital video service formerly known as Xbox Video, is joining Movies Anywhere this week. That’s according to a page that went live on Microsoft’s website but soon the page was removed. However, the welcome page on the Movies Anywhere features Microsoft Movies & TV which confirms the new partner has joined the bandwagon.

Microsoft confirmed that the support for Movies Anywhere allows users with a Microsoft Account to link it to Movies Anywhere and once linked, all of the movies already available through Movies Anywhere will be accessible by Microsoft’s apps, while video content bought from Microsoft’s digital storefront will be available to watch from the other digital retailers.

Disney’s Movies Anywhere is a multi-platform content locker designed for storing movies produced by Disney, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, and Warner Bros. For the service purchases of physical discs, with many Blu-ray and DVD releases including codes for digital copies of the films, would also do.

According to the Microsoft webpage for the service, movie rentals and TV shows are not currently eligible for use on Movies Anywhere. Movies bought via an Xbox 360, Windows Phone, or a Windows device running an older operating system than Windows 10 may experience a 24-hour delay for related content to appear in their Movies Anywhere account.

The service provided by Microsoft is currently provided in the US only while other regions have to wait.
