Disney Announces Major Disney+, Hulu Price Hikes and New Streaming Bundle

The Big Picture

  • Prices for the Disney bundle, including Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+, are set to increase significantly starting on October 12.
  • The new duo premium bundle will offer both Disney+ and Hulu’s ad-free plans for only $19.99 per month, a discount of over $10 compared to purchasing them separately.
  • Disney plans to expand its ad-supported plan to Canada and select EMEA markets, but subscribers in these regions can expect price increases for premium subscriptions starting in December.

Prepare for a major increase in prices for the Disney bundle. During the Q3 earnings call, CEO Bob Iger announced significant changes to the pricing model of Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+. While a new duo bundle will provide a discounted rate for both Hulu and Disney+, the overall cost for all three streaming platforms will also rise.

Starting on October 12, the ad-free plan for Disney+ will increase from $10.99 to $13.99 per month, and Hulu’s ad-free plan will also rise by the same amount, from $14.99 to $17.99. The ad-supported plans for both platforms will remain unchanged, as Disney aims to encourage more customers to choose these options. In addition to last year’s price increase, which already made individual Disney services more expensive, Hulu’s premium plan has seen a $5 monthly increase within the past year, while Disney+’s premium plan has increased by $6 to distinguish it from the recently-introduced ad-supported tier. ESPN+ subscribers will also see a slight increase, with the subscription fee rising from $9.99 to $10.99.

The price hike will also impact the Hulu + Live TV offering. Both the ad-supported and ad-free tiers will increase by $7, making the new prices $76.99 and $89.99, respectively. However, there is a new duo premium bundle available that offers both Disney+ and Hulu’s ad-free plans for only $19.99, which is a discount of over $10 compared to purchasing the plans separately. Subscribers can switch to this new plan starting September 6. Existing bundles, including the ad-supported Hulu and Disney+ bundle for $9.99 and the trio bundle featuring all three platforms for $24.99, will continue to be available despite the restructuring.
