Diablo IV is Coming to Steam Alongside Season 2 with Crossplay and Cross Progression

Diablo IV has been one of the biggest PC launches of the year, but it’s reach has been limited somewhat by the fact that it’s only been available via Battle.net, not Steam or any other storefront. Well, that’s about to change. During their most recent developer update, Blizzard announced that Diablo IV will be launching on Steam later this month alongside the game’s Season 2 content. Blizzard community director Adam Fletcher had this to say about the move…

“We are bringing more Diablo IV players into the world, because Diablo IV is going to be launching on Steam with the launch Season 2. The nice part of being on Steam of course is it carries over all the same elements of all the other platforms — crossplay, cross progression will work immediately. So if you have friends on Battle.net and you’d prefer to play on Steam, you can of course play together from both sides, which is awesome to see.”

As mentioned, Diablo IV will arrive on Steam alongside Season 2, entitled “Season of Blood.” As the title implies, the new season will focus on all things vampiric, adding new blood-sucking powers and five additional endgame bosses. Here’s a quick rundown and teaser trailer for the season…

“At the behest of their dark master, a newly turned army of ravenous vampires has set their sights on Sanctuary. The master’s sinister plot remains a shrouded mystery but their pursuit for the blood of innocents has caused an uproar. You must learn to hunt the hunter—your fate depends on it.

Season of Blood will introduce a new Questline for you to uncover, Vampiric Powers to wield against their originators, 5 additional endgame bosses with the ability to target specific Unique and Uber Unique items as a drop, and more.”

Diablo IV can be played on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. Season 2 and the accompanying Steam launch are slated from October 17. What do you think? More likely to give Diablo IV a chance now that it’s coming to Steam? Or was it not the storefront/launcher that was keeping you away from the game?
