With Shazam! Fury of the Gods struggling at the box office and The Flash marking the end of the first decade of the DCU, many are curious about the future of Blue Beetle.
The superhero origin story was originally slated for an HBO Max release, but after being upgraded to a theatrical release, it seems to have garnered support from Warner Bros. insiders. Director James Gunn is among them, so perhaps he has plans for Xolo Maridueña’s Jaime Reyes in the future.

While the fate of Blue Beetle is still uncertain, star Xolo Maridueña revealed in an interview with Empire that he’s ready and willing to be a part of the larger DCU universe if the audience shows interest.
“If we get one movie or a trilogy and f*cking fold this into the Justice League sh*t, we’re ready for the whole nine. For me and Angel [Manuel Soto, director] and the team, we kicked ass with this movie. It just depends on numbers.”
The buzz surrounding Blue Beetle is strong, despite some backlash from a vocal minority after George Lopez called Batman a fascist. Only time will tell if audiences will flock to see the DC Comics adaptation on the big screen, but if they do, Maridueña may get his wish and face off against or team up with the Justice League.
