Destiny 2’s next reprised raid has a launch date

Destiny 2‘s upcoming reprised raid now has an official launch date. As announced in the latest post of Bungie’s This Week in Destiny blog series, the raid will be available starting September 1, 2023, as part of Destiny 2 season 22. Although Bungie has not revealed which reprised raid will be featured in the popular FPS game, they have shared details about the Contest Mode rules that players can expect in the upcoming raid.

Upon the raid’s release, Bungie will activate Contest Mode for 48 hours. To qualify for the World’s First raid race and unlock the secret triumph, players must successfully clear the raid with Contest Mode enabled, which will also grant access to Challenge Mode in the Director. Challenge Mode entails a series of curated challenges that must be completed. The team that completes them first will be crowned the World’s First and receive a prestigious victory belt.

In the blog post, Bungie also advises that teams attempting Contest Mode completions should be aware that the entire fireteam will be wiped if they fail to meet the success conditions in any encounter. This requirement is in place to enforce the Triumph requirements in Challenge Mode. In summary, players aiming for the World’s First title or the Triumph must clear the raid once and then complete the various challenges in a subsequent run.

While the exact reprised raid is still a mystery, speculation among players suggests it may be either Wrath of the Machine or Crota’s End, both from the original Destiny. Some believe that Crota’s End may be too short to return as a raid, while others speculate that the reprised raid could be from Destiny 2, with Leviathan being the most likely candidate. However, a developer interview prior to Lightfall’s launch seems to confirm that it will be an original Destiny raid.
