Cyberpunk 2077 Used AI to Recreate Voice of Deceased Voice Actor With Family’s Permission

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red used AI to recreate the voice of a deceased Polish actor for the Phantom Libery expansion, a new report revealed.

Bloomberg confirmed yesterday the developer used artificial intelligence to recreate the voice
of deceased Polish actor Miłogost Reczek for the Phantom Liberty expansion. The Polish developer had the option to replace the voice actor entirely, revoicing his character in the base game, but ultimately decided against it, as Miłogost Reczek was one of the best Polish voice talents, and his performance as Viktor Vektor was considered stellar.

Instead of replacing Miłogost Reczek entirely, CDPR had another voice actor record the new lines for the character then used a software called Respeecher to create an algorithm that changed the new voice actor’s voice to sound like that of the original actor. The whole process received approval from the deceased’s family.

Given how much Cyberpunk 2077 deals with themes like the use of AI, what CD Projet Red did sounds rather appropriate. It was also an excellent way to celebrate the deceased voice actor and the legacy he left behind.

Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion, Phantom Liberty, are now available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S worldwide. You can learn more about the expansion by checking out Alessio’s review.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty builds upon what was an already great game to deliver more fantastic storytelling (with a spy thriller theme, this time around), exciting combat, and very high-quality side content. The perk tree overhaul is a major improvement to progression, and additions like vehicle combat and the overhauled police system are very welcome, albeit not game-changing. If you’ve been holding out on Cyberpunk 2077 until now, you’ll find a huge game with over 120 hours of quality content and an incredibly immersive game world to literally lose yourself in. On top of that, it’s by far the most beautiful and technically advanced game available if you have the hardware for it (PC and RTX 40 GPU).
