Cyberpunk 2077 Misses The Game Awards 2020 Due to Its Latest Delay

Cyberpunk 2077 is now launching on December 10th and it means it cannot participate at The Game Awards 2020.

December 10th is the fourth official launch date for Cyberpunk 2077 since its announcement, which means the game has been delayed three times so far. Despite all the negative impacts on the game’s community, the latest delay cost CD Projekt RED a lot more, when they realize that they wouldn’t be allowed to participate at this year’s The Game Awards event.

As confirmed by Geoff Keighley, the director and presenter behind The Game Awards, Cyberpunk 2077 cannot compete against the other titles of this year for winning a trophy at The Game Awards 2020, since it will be launched just one day prior to the event, which obviously means there would be not enough time to play and review it.

Despite the fact that the game has gone gold, CD Projekt RED claimed that the simultaneous launch of the game on 9 different consoles needs more testing and polishing time, which is the main reason for the delay. However, it seems the packed release calendar of November for the upcoming games might be another important reason to push Cyberpunk 2077 back to December.

With titles like Dreams, Animal Crossing New Horizons, The Last of Us Part 2, Crusader Kings 3, Wasteland 3, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Hades, and Final Fantasy VII Remake this year already seems to be very tough and challenging for the participants. So, Cyberpunk 2077‘s absence is surely a benefit and a relief for other competitors to have more chances of winning trophies at The Game Awards 2020.

Unlike every year, this year’s The Game Awards will be only held digitally, but Geoff Keighley and his team are trying their best to deliver a very different online showcase that you haven’t seen before. The show will be aired from three different cities around the world and we don’t know yet what that exactly means.

The Game Awards 2020 is set to be streamed on December 11th, but the nominees for each field will be unveiled sooner than that.
