Create Nova Roma city-builder game and rebuild the Roman Empire

Nova Roma is a city-building game that puts you in charge of revitalizing a decaying Roman Empire. From managing supply chains to manipulating terrain, Lion Shield’s upcoming game offers a unique and complex experience. You’ll need to focus on the survival of your city and the thriving of the Roman Empire, all while facing floods, unhappy citizens, and even the wrath of the Roman gods. As a fan of history and management sims, Nova Roma is a game I’ll be keeping my eye on.

Lion Shield, the indie development team behind the best-selling city-builder Kingdoms and Castles, is spearheading the project, and they’re hoping to deliver another strategy hit. With Kingdoms and Castles selling over a million copies on Steam in its first year, there’s no doubt about Lion Shield’s capabilities in the genre.

Nova Roma introduces innovative features such as a running water mechanic that incorporates infrastructure manipulation, expansive supply chains that lead to resource-rich areas, city management through edicts, and a diverse population with a wide range of needs. The game even allows you to build coliseums and host gladiator events within them.

But what sets Nova Roma apart are the enemies you’ll face, including the Roman gods themselves. The developers promise to create a game informed by both history and mythology, providing an exciting opportunity to experience the Roman Empire in a new way. As a fan of Greek and Roman mythology, I’m particularly excited to see how the gods are brought into the game.

Nova Roma also features terraforming, allowing players to sculpt their Roman land to their liking. With big maps, there’s ample opportunity for customization and creativity.

If Nova Roma has piqued your interest, be sure to check out other top strategy games or some of the best war games and medieval games. But for those of us who love history, management, and even a little bit of mythology, Nova Roma is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the genre.
