A group of 48 scholars, backed by Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), has successfully graduated from the Amazon Web Services (AWS) re/Start program.

Partnering with Edukasyon.ph, CPI initiated a program aimed at imparting digital skills training, specifically focusing on cloud computing, to underprivileged youths. Edukasyon.ph, a social enterprise dedicated to connecting learners with educational opportunities, facilitated the program.

“Our scholars’ unwavering resolve and talent in cloud computing will undoubtedly take them to great places,” said Raissa Bautista, senior corporate affairs advisor, Chevron. “It truly goes to show how far determination and proper support can get you.”

The curriculum covered different subjects including Cloud Foundations, Linux, Cloud Adoption Framework, Databases, Networking, and soft skills. This marks Chevron’s debut venture into supporting cloud computing skills, expanding its portfolio beyond its learning programs such as the Caltex Mentor Program and Fuel Your School.

Selected from a pool of 50 candidates nationwide, 48 scholars successfully completed the rigorous program. Their graduation celebration symbolized not only personal triumphs but also the growing demand for cloud computing expertise among employers.

Job placements

Among the graduates, Kymberlyn Valbuena emerged as the top performer, demonstrating the impact of accessible education. Despite initial doubts about eligibility, she excelled, attributing her success to the program’s inclusivity and structured approach.

The AWS re/Start program, funded by Chevron, offers free training and certification opportunities to learners regardless of their background. Upon completion, graduates are connected with over 15 hiring partners for potential job placements.

“AWS re/Start brings “net-new” talent into the workforce, establishing a win-win-win scenario for individuals to launch successful careers in cloud, organizations to increase their competitive edge with in-demand talent, and communities to thrive and grow,” said Tejas Vashi, global leader for AWS re/Start.
