Capcom remains ambiguous about potential Resident Evil spinoff remakes in shareholder meeting

Are we getting a remake of Code Veronica?

A few weeks ago, Capcom conducted a survey asking fans if they would like to see more remakes of Resident Evil games. Now that the survey is over, it seems that Capcom is considering bringing back older entries in its iconic survival horror series. And why not? It’s a highly profitable venture.

But it doesn’t stop there. A recent general shareholder meeting with Capcom suggests that they may be planning to remake some spinoff games as well. In a summary document (as reported by GamesRadar), there’s a question about whether Capcom will only focus on remaking the main numbered entries in the Resident Evil series or if they will also explore remakes of spinoff games.

The answer to whether we’ll see more remakes is not a definite one. Capcom’s response states that they are discussing the future expansion of the series to ensure that it can be enjoyed by a wider audience. This hints at the possibility of remaking non-numbered Resident Evil installments.

Or maybe you’re more interested in Umbrella Chronicles…

Besides the mainline games, the Resident Evil franchise has a number of spinoffs, including Code Veronica, Revelations 1 and 2, Umbrella Chronicles, Outbreak, and more. With this extensive list, Capcom has plenty of options when it comes to deciding which games to remake.

Considering the success of this year’s Resident Evil 4 remake, it’s not surprising if there are more reimaginings in the works. However, apart from RE5, there aren’t many options for the main series without creating a completely new entry. Games 6, 7, and 8 are relatively new, so it doesn’t make much sense to remake them.

But at least Capcom has various spinoffs that they can consider remaking. We’ll have to wait and see what the company decides.
