Canadian woman can’t stop getting Amazon packages she didn’t order

A woman residing in British Columbia, Canada, has found herself the recipient of more than 50 unexpected Amazon packages, as per a report by CBC. To compound matters, she has been billed over $300 in customs fees by the United Parcel Service (UPS) for the unsolicited deliveries, which she hasn’t had the opportunity to refuse.

Speaking to CBC, Anca Nitu expressed her frustration, stating, “They keep coming and it just doesn’t end.” Nitu believes the issue is somehow connected to her dormant Amazon account.

Amazon has stated that they have addressed Nitu’s case and are taking “corrective action.” They advise anyone facing similar unexpected deliveries to report it using the Report Unwanted Package form on their website.

This incident differs from the case where Sonos mistakenly sent excessive products worth $15,000 to an unsuspecting recipient in multiple shipments. Initially, Sonos charged the recipient for the items and only offered a refund upon return. However, they eventually allowed the person to keep the products, as it is stated by FTC rules that individuals are not obligated to pay for unordered items.

According to the Better Business Bureau of British Columbia, certain Amazon sellers may be orchestrating this scheme to avoid additional fees for returned products. For international sellers, expenses such as shipping, warehousing, and disposal can quickly accumulate, making it more cost-effective to send unwanted goods to private addresses within the same region.

One possibility for Nitu’s situation is that her account information was obtained through phishing or that her identity was stolen to associate her with certain seller accounts. Nitu expressed her concern, saying, “I don’t know what Amazon is allowing them to do because they got a hold of my name, my address, and my old phone number.”

In the meantime, Nitu continues to receive numerous shoes without paying for them, although UPS is charging her for customs duties. The Canadian Border Services Agency mandates that couriers hold packages until all applicable duties are paid, but it appears that UPS may not be adhering to this requirement. UPS declined to comment until they have spoken to Nitu.
