Inevitably, there are certain constants in life – the blue sky, the wetness of water, the certainty of death and taxes. Another addition to this list is the ongoing criticism faced by Brie Larson from a section of the Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom. As we approach the release of “The Marvels” in four months, it is expected that the hate train will continue to gain momentum. The upcoming series “Secret Invasion” is anticipated to be the latest weapon used by the trolls and haters to target the Academy Award-winning actress, especially after Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn, made a reference to her absence as the cosmic crusader.

Since her debut as Captain Marvel five years ago, Larson has had limited screen time in significant movies such as “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Endgame,” “Ms. Marvel,” and “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” These appearances have predominantly focused on her adventures beyond Earth, resulting in the creation of memes that have dubbed her as “Captain Useless.”
However, if “The Marvels” succeeds at the box office and receives critical acclaim, all the criticism may become irrelevant. On the flip side, “Captain Marvel” remains the lowest-rated film in the MCU on Rotten Tomatoes, having faced an intense review-bombing campaign and continual backlash.
The outcome is uncertain, but it is likely that we already have a good idea of where it will ultimately lead.
