Bob Iger’s Comments on Divisive ‘Snow White’ Reboot Photos Spark Strong Reactions from Former Marvel Actor; Mouse House Responds

The past week has been quite eventful for Disney. They celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Disney Channel, received a whopping 42 Emmy nominations (or 64, depending on the source) at Hulu, and faced controversy with Bob Iger’s stance on the SAG-AFTRA debate.

The fallout from Iger’s comments has not been easy for some Disney alumni. A Marvel veteran was told that almost a decade of his work was not deemed “significant,” and the sister of a Star Wars legend called out Iger, using some colorful language.

But that’s not all. The internet was set ablaze with live-action Snow White photos released by Disney. It’s rare for the company to comment on viral happenings, making this an even more noteworthy moment.

Joely Fisher, the half-sister of Carrie Fisher, expressed strong criticism towards Bob Iger for his comments referring to the SAG-AFTRA strike. As a former president of SAG-AFTRA and the current national secretary and treasurer, Fisher has been a vocal supporter of performers’ rights. She stated in a CNN interview that Disney is profiting from their work, and it is not unreasonable to expect fair compensation. Fisher didn’t hold back, directly addressing Iger with some choice words and jokingly implying she won’t work again.

Alongside Fisher’s comments, Disney star JB Tadena from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Raya of the Last Dragon also responded to Iger’s remarks. Rather than using strong language, Tadena simply shared a residual check, highlighting the lack of substantial payment for their work.

In his interview with CNBC, Bob Iger claimed that Marvel’s focus on Disney Plus content diluted audience attention and compromised quality. However, it wasn’t this statement that caught the attention of Marvel icon Clark Gregg, well-known for his role as Phil Coulson in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. What irked Gregg was Iger indirectly implying that his nearly decade-long work on the show was insignificant. In a Twitter post, he simply said, “Bro…” conveying his disappointment.

Recently, alleged set photos of the live-action Snow White movie caused a backlash among conservative fans of the original animated film. These photos depicted diverse “dwarves,” sparking controversy. While the Daily Mail initially reported them as “stand-in extras,” later on, the Daily Beast issued a statement from Disney, labeling the photos as fake. However, Disney later corrected this and confirmed the photos were from the production, just not officially released.

It remains unclear whether the diversity represented in the set photos accurately reflects the final casting decisions. Regardless, this reboot of Disney’s beloved animated classic is bound to face criticism, as reactions to reboots are often polarizing.
